We traveled to Corpus Christi for a BIG race weekend for my two boys! Justin had a half-marathon... his fourth, and Caden had his FIRST race... the MILE!
We traveled on Friday and had fun hanging out with KK, while waiting for Albi to return from his week of travels and resting up for our big weekend of racing!
Saturday morning Caden was ready to roll... and RUN his big race. It was warm and muggy...just what you'd expect from a CC morning. And it was breezy... but just breezy... the next day is when the winds would really show us their might.
Of course, we had to snap a few pics... I mean... first race! Come on! How cool is that?!
The race weekend was hosted by The Wounded Warrior Foundation, a group that Justin has had the opportunity to work with and come to love, so it was extra special to run in honor of such a worthwhile organization.
A proud American...
A sweet boy...
A dude ready to run...
And play on all of the statues!
And flex his muscles...
Hey, ho!
Muscles again... does anyone else say, MUSK-les... to help you spell it?!
And Kaki had her turn...
She is cheesin' but not lookin' in the right direction... :) Sweet girl!
Lining up and getting ready... as you can tell the kids race was a BIG hit... ha! Not too many runners but it was still lots of fun for Caden to participate in!
Once the announcer started getting going Caden tried to lose it... he started tearing up and we thought we might have a bit of trouble on our hands...
The experience was almost too much... the anticipation... the excitement... the thrill of competition... it can get to a dude... haha...sweet thang!
So Daddy jumped in and started running with him...
Within 30 seconds he told Daddy to GO, that he could do it and off he ran. What a courageous little man to do it all by himself! :)
See him in the yellow...
My budding runner...
Still running...
Up hills and down hills... nothing could stop him...
On the home stretch... SO proud!
HE DID IT! In 12:23... Go Cade-man!!! We are so proud of you!!
The rest of the day was all up for FUN!!
We did lunch... pizza for the big man!
There was swimming... Caden and I braved the cool water until we turned purple! It was awesome!! We even managed to earn some tan lines while we did it! Success!!
And we did Easter... a bit early...
HUNTING...
Kaki was trying to figure this whole egg thing out... she couldn't remember last year! :)
They got kites in their baskets... SPIDERMAN!!
Cade-man needed to borrow my shades while flying... that sun was tough!
And Daddy... well, he pretty much did this all day...
The next day was his BIG day... so he took it easy...
MOST LITERALLY...
We love that sleepy guy!! :)
And were so proud of him for training for and completing another half-marathon!
I dropped him off before the sun on Sunday morning... the bridge was lit up, all ready for the runners to cross!
Then we managed to find him while we was running ocean side and were able to follow him in our car and snap some pics!
He made it very easy on us with his choice of shirt... ORANGE!! Look for the ORANGE!!
The good news about race day for Justin was that a cold front came through during the night and took the warm temps and the humidity with it... the bad news was the cold front that came through during the night and brought the 30 mph winds straight out of the north!
One way the wind was behind him but on the way back... he was running straight into it! It was tough! I could barely walk... but he managed to complete the last 5 miles of his run in it! :)
ON the home stretch... look at those waves in the BAY crashing... that's the wind!
Our man!!
Caden jogged him into the finish line...
There he goes...
And our finisher... a happy guy!! Beat his goal despite the wind!! We are so proud of you, Daddy!
And I am so proud of both of my boys!!
It was a SUPER FUN weekend in the CC with Kk and Albi as our ever-gracious hosts. We had plenty to eat, lots to do, goals to conquer and love to share!!
Happy Race Weekend!
