And we did it!
We successfully completed our Dude Birthday Weekend... in two parts! And it was a fun one! One for the history books! So let's see, where did we leave off...
Ah, yes... Sunday...
After church on Sunday morning we headed southbound on I-35 towards San Antonio (does anyone else hear the old cowboys from the Pace Picante commercials saying "San Antonio" every time they say/hear San Antonio?! Anyone?! You know like...San AN-tonio! EVERY time! Love it!) Okay, so we were headin' to San Antonio to partake in Dude Birthday Part II festivities... we had a lot planned so we knew we better be ready to get crackin' as soon as our feet hit the San Antonio soil...
KK and Albi had a yummy lunch ready for us when we arrived... and we were hungry... go figure! After lunch we went straight to the pool to try out all of the new pool toys that KK and Albi had picked up for Caden at the store. We've decided that this is an awkward age for kiddos at the pool... too big for so many things and too small for others... playing on the steps, jumping off the side and hanging out in the shallow end is where it is at... and of course practicing blowing our bubbles!
Caden didn't make it too long before he was ready to head back and take a nap. SO KK and Albi graciously took Caden back to the house while Justin and I stayed at the pool for a few extra minutes. We didn't last much longer before we realized what a great opportunity had presented itself... we could go run errands without the Chade! Not that we don't love running errands with the Chade, because we do! BUT what a treat nonetheless! So we walked back to the house, changed real quick and headed out for a lil dude birthday shopping! A few stops later we were back at the house ready to play with Caden! (and KK and Albi of course!)
Once Caden woke up from his nap it wasn't too much longer before his SUPER FUN NIGHT with KK and Albi got started. Justin and I were fortunate enough to have KK and Albi offer to take Caden out for a little date night so that Justin and I could enjoy a date night all our own!
So to be sure they beat the CRAZY DINNER CROWD at Luby's, Caden and his KK and Albi loaded up and headed out a bit earlier than Justin and I. We thought they'd be back before we left for our little date, but we were wrong... they were having WAY TOO much fun gallivanting around town to come back home and say bye to us...
First stop was Luby's of course... My grandparents used to take my brother and I (our whole family, really) to Luby's ALL the time. It is one of my favorite memories of them. They used to let me have ALL YOU CAN EAT mac 'n cheese, so when I finished my first round, I just had to show the waitress my special ALL YOU CAN EAT flag and I would get to go back for more! Oh, my mouth is watering thinking about it now... I love Luby's!
And Caden is just a chip off the ol' block because guess what??
He LOVES Luby's too!!
Mac 'n cheese please!
And fried okra (FINALLY a veggie he'll eat... even if it's fried! Ha!)
Milk...
Bread...
YUM and YUM!
He even liked the chopped steak! Go Caden Go! AND he successfully ate off a plate! This is huge people!
As you can see the place was PACKED! Haha! :) I guess they even beat the 'blue hairs!'
After their yummy dinner they went to Target to pick up a few things...
Caden loves a trip to Target especially with the g-rents, because he is SURE to get something... this time it was a new lovie since his silly Mommy left his at home! Oops! Now we have one for KK's house too! :)
After Target KK and Albi took Caden to a FANCY new park that just opened up in San Antonio! They said he RAN the entire time they were there... from one place to the next. All you have to do is check out his sweet red cheeks to tell that he was having a GREAT time!
Justin and I were getting all gussied up for our big date. Justin wanted to go out for a yummy meal and there is NO place like San Antonio when it comes to good food... so he chose one of our favorite foodie-inspired places called the Silo. It is spectacular! We have been there a few times with the fam but never just the two of us... it was a very nice treat. We spread our dinner out over 2.5 hours and enjoyed every bit of it! We even branched out a bit with our first course and tried chicken fried oysters for the first time... all I can is..."I'm a Believer!" In fact, we liked them so much that Justin ordered a second order... HA! Needless to say we were STUFFED and more than satisfied with our food choices! It was a great night! Thanks KK and Albi for stealing the Chade away for a few hours! :)
By the time we got home Caden was long-asleep... although he did get to stay up a bit later than normal... and good for him... if you can't party with the grandparents who can you party with?! Amen?!
The next morning Caden was sure to tell us ALL about his fun night... and we told him about ours. We decided that his park stories were too fun to just hear... we had to experience it for ourselves so we loaded up and headed back to the park so Caden could show us all of his tricks!
It didn't take long for us to realize that it was going to be a H-O-T-T one so the next stop was obviously the POOL! And then there is certainly NO trip to San Antonio that is complete without a little Mexican Food... so that was the after-pool stop...
AND THEN...
KK treated me to a mani/pedi while Caden was napping and the dudes were working yesterday afternoon! It was great!
Check out our pretty, pretty toes!! Thanks KK!! I'm officially spoiled with two pedicures in one month!! Love it!! (Better not get used to it! :) )
After Caden woke up from his nap KK needed some help watering her flowers... although I'm not sure why she bothers because the neighborhood deer are sure to eat any blooms she grows!! Poor KK! She is quite the farmer and gardener... she has about 5 herbs growing and LOTS of pretty flowers... she has been a yard-workin' fool this year! Maybe there is hope for me yet... I have some green-thumb in me somewhere! Until then, I'll just steal herbs from KK's garden!! YUM!!!
I'm not sure he was ANY help, but he had fun regardless! He LOVES water... no matter where it comes from... dog bowl, pool, hose, faucet...
So there you have it... a Dude Birthday Part II celebration complete with WAY more details than most of you ever wanted to know!
Happy Birthday Justin! I hoped you enjoyed being celebrated as much as we ALL enjoyed celebrating you and your 28 years of life!!! We love you!!
(Stayed Tuned: Caden's 17 Month Bithday is today... another post to come!)
