Labor Day...Houston-Style

"Me, oh my! Me, oh my! What a lot of funny things go by... "

That's what I was saying in the back seat of the family-mobile as Mommy, Daddy and I headed to Houston... oh yah and the pups too!  It was a Labor Day, Houston-style... and Houston never seems to disappoint!

It all started...

Friday night with a YUMMY Mexican dinner at Cyclone's! Oh so yummy! Then it was to bed I said... and to open a bottle of wine Mommy said! And so I did... and so she did too! Traveling can be hard on a guy... and his Mommy and Daddy too! Five words...Houston traffic during snack time!

Saturday was a laid back day around the house... you know... playing... crawling... playing...crawling... nothing real exciting to report...

WAIT CADEN! Aren't you forgetting something, you ask?! Oh right... that... Oh yah and THAT! Okay so Saturday was a pretty huge day...

First off... I got my first officially REAL boo boo! I mean it was nothin'... really... a fat lip and a bloody nose... no big deal! At least I didn't think so... BUT my Mommy...well that was another matter! She got all FREAKED out when she came to rescue me from the "big bad wood floors"(like it was their fault I haven't quite perfected my man-crawl...) and saw what looked like red flesh hanging out of my mouth... through my tears of pain, I mean, laughter I assured her that is was nothing other than the strawberry I had just eaten with my breakfast... savin' it for later... you know... in case nap time runs a little long. Once she realized that the "big bad wood floors" hadn't taken the flesh out of my inner cheek, she breathed a sigh of relief and we all laughed about my growing lip...

It kept, growing and GROWING...

Nothing a little ice couldn't handle though... and it left a mark... which is cool because...

CHICKS DIG SCARS!!!

So that was THAT! And then the other THAT... well it is actually two other THATs... Saturday turned out to be a great day for Cox Family sports...

FIRST...OUDIN BEAT SHARAPOVA!! Mommy is a huge tennis fan and was super excited to see that Melanie beat the pants or skirt or dress off of Maria!! AND BONUS... she continues to win... beating one Russian after the other!! Awesome!

And last but certainly NEVER LEAST... OUR BEARS! They won!! Beating a legit team... I'm not so sure exactly what that means, but my Daddy kept saying it, so I am sure it is important to note! Daddy and my Uncle Tag had to go to a local bar to watch the game... when they came home their voices sounded all funny... like they been talking for HOURS... Mommy says that that is what Daddy's voice will sound like for the next few months... not sure why, but I guess I better get used to it huh?

Aunt Cori, Mommy and I stayed behind and listened to some guy named the Voice of the Baylor Bears on the computer. He was telling us all about the exciting stuff happening at the game. When the Bears won we all clapped and yelled... YAY BAYLOR!! YAY CADEN!! Not sure what I did, but I like it when Baylor wins!! It's fun!!

SUNDAY... was turn back the hands of time day and let's visit with Mommy and Daddy's old friends! First up was brunch with two of Mommy and Daddy's best friends from college. They were also in Mommy and Daddy's wedding... and they both have little dudes like me, one is an older wiser type and the other is pretty much my age... just a few steps behind! It was SO fun to meet the other boys...

All of the daddies attempted to show off their photography skillz by capturing ALL six of us smiling and looking the same direction at the same time... it was a valiant effort...

My silly Mommy ruined this one...

Pretty close on this one...

Oh yah... a shot of my new threads... Mommy bought it for me when she and Aunt Cori went shopping on Saturday... thanks Mommy!

Not even close...

NOPE!!

Ah well... candid photos are always more descriptive anyway... they show the REAL deal!!

After brunch it was nap time... for me... and for...

My Aunt Cori says Mommy is evil... hehe! Can you tell they're related?!

And it's too bad Mommy didn't snap a video... because Mommy said the symphony of snores these two were belting out was quite impressive!

I guess this is what I have to look forward to?! I really DO need to start praying for those Evans-genes to kick in!!

Dear God,
Please help me look more like Mommy with each passing day... and please, most of all, help me to breathe best through my nose so I DO NOT become a mouth breather! Thanks and I'll talk to you soon!
In His name,
Caden

After nap time it was PLAY TIME!!

With my Aunt Cori...

Until the THUNDER ROLLED and the LIGHTENING STRIKED...

It rained... RAIN? I think I've only seen it like two times since I've been born...

Wow... drip, drop, drop, drip...rumble! Crash! Rumble! What fun!!

Sunday evening the old friend fun continued when two of Mommy and Daddy's good friends from high school came over for dinner! It was almost my bed time when the fun started but I got to meet two other girls who were named Katie too... just like my mommy!

Just another Manic Monday... of traveling... we headed back early to be sure we missed the Labor Day Road Crazies and had plenty of time to settle-into another week at home!

I already miss my Aunt Cori ... and Uncle Tag too... BUT I get to see them in just a few short weeks!

Thanks for a FUN trip to Houston!! I can't wait to come back!! Love you Aunt Cori and Uncle Tag!!

It Twas a Happy Labor Day!!

Happy 8 Months Sweet Boy!

I know, I know... it's already time for ANOTHER birthday post! I can't believe it either. 8 months! Are you kidding me?! But it's true... it's that time in Texas! Happy Birthday Cade-man!

You've been up to SO much this month...
  • You grew two teeth! Your bottom two!
  • I only nurse you three times a day, not four, or five, or six, or eight!!
  • You eat three solid meals and a snack!
  • You are going to bed much earlier these days... around 7:30 each night. You wake up between 7 and 7:30 on most days! Still taking two naps each day as well! Yay Caden!
  • You started to eat Cheerios this month and LOVE them... and so does your digestive system!
  • You are still full on bear crawling but are getting closer to the "real" crawl everyday!
  • You can go from laying down to sitting up now... what a surprise that was one day after nap time...there you were sitting up like a big boy!
  • You love your walker... you move and groove all over this house!
  • You love to swing and are super excited about your new backyard swing.
  • You have decided that talking isn't really your thing... when you feel like it you are super chatty and then other days you are Silent Sam. Today you are SUPER chatty... in honor of your birthday no doubt!
  • You are the greatest dinner companion and have proved yourself to be a champ during long dinners a few different times this month!
  • You love your Daddy so very much and get so excited when you hear his voice over the phone when he calls to say he's coming home! Yay!
  • You are still enjoying your Praise Baby DVDs which is a nice treat for mommy every once in awhile!
  • You fell off the bed for the first and hopefully last time this month... thanks to yours truly... mother of the year! It was WAY more traumatic for mommy than for you thank goodness! It REALLY does take only seconds... and to think I thought there was no way that would ever happen to me... only bad moms let that happen I used to think... well then, Hi my name is Bad Mom, what's your name?
  • You still love that stinkin' passy... still boggles our minds that it took you 6 months to enjoy it!
  • You LOVE to read and are a great help at turning the pages! It's also fun to "pat" the pictures on each page!
  • You love to eat and will be moving on to finger foods much sooner than we would have ever thought! You're ready to eat the good stuff! :)
  • One thing hasn't changed at all though... HOW MUCH YOUR DADDY AND I LOVE YOU!! To the moon and back and then some!
Happy Happy 8 Months Lil Man!

And with each passing month comes a fun birthday photo shoot...

Today I braved our first outdoor photo shoot... just me and the Cade-man and the passing school buses, construction trucks and other distractions! Not many smiles or even shots of him looking at the camera... BUT we tried!

Enjoy!!!

The worm pic!

Sunday Fun Day= 32 New Photos!!!

After a long but exciting day trip to San Antonio yesterday (which deserves its' very own blog), we decided to play hookie from church today and have a Sunday Fun Day... a day full of good old fashioned family fun! It quite honestly might have been one of my favorite days that we have spent as a family of three thus far! Much of my enjoyment came from this GORGEOUS weather... and by gorgeous I mean no triple digits... it is amazing how cool 96 degrees can feel! The weather has really been beating me down lately, so today was just what I needed to get that spring back in my step! What a blessing!

So we started Sunday Fun Day with a FULL family walk... the Cade-man, Max and Maci... before a yummy family breakfast at our bagel joint complete with a Cox-house-brewed cup of jo! YUMMO!! Then it was PLAY TIME!!! Caden had all sorts of tricks up his sleeve this morning. And it just so happens that we captured one of our favorites on camera! Shocker I know... the poor kid really isn't photographed enough!

Caden LOVES to crawl into his toy cubbies... clear them all out until they are empty and then crawl back out... watch him go...

In...
Getting the last few things out... making sure we were keeping track of his progress...

Startin' his turn back...

It's getting a little tight in these cubbies... time to get creative...

Tuck and roll into a tiny little ball... shimmy, shimmy, shimmy...

And PUSH...

Done... and...

Done... on to the next trick...

After a good morning nap it was POOL TIME...EXCELLENT... Bill and Ted anyone??

Daddy-Made-Mohawk...

Time for the baby pool... splash, splash... pat the water, Caden!! Good boy!!

Right next to the pool is the greatest little playground... the only one in the neighborhood with Caden-swings... which he loves!!

Since Daddy was with us today we decided to brave a few more things at the park... slides... mirrors... look-out points... what fun!

Not so sure about this one... Daddy was scared, but the Cade-man was bored... YAWN!

Daddy's a little tall for the playground...

YAY CADEN!!!

Where's Caden? Where's Caden?? THERE HE IS!!

He DID NOT LIKE the black playground floor on his little feetsies!! Poor thing!!

And he's really not a fan of sitting in the grass... which is hilarious to me! Our little outdoor boy hates the grass... I guess it is kind of itchy, especially in this drought!!

Back at the ranch... it was crazy hair hour...

Nothing like a little sunscreen and a goofy hat to royally mess up a guy's hairdo!

Before we went out and about this afternoon, Caden asked if we could help a brother out with the hair... so we found this great hat to cover the mess!! Hehe!!

Boy does he look like his daddy or what???

The reason for our afternoon outing was to purchase THIS... our very own Caden-swing!! YAY!!! I having been dreaming of the day when we could put up a swing in the backyard for Caden... and today was the day! I think I'm going to enjoy it more than Caden!!

Although... Caden was a HUGE fan of it!

After dinner we went back out to the porch to relax before bedtime and he got SO relaxed that he went right to sleep... an amazing, amazing thing!

Now, Caden is in bed and Justin is smoking a stogie and I'm drinking a can, yes I said can of Champagne (don't knock it until you try it... it is called Sophia... not bad for canned champagne!)... and life is good on the back porch of the Cox house!!

Happy Sunday!!!
